The Texas Rangers have signed Drew Stubbs to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training.

Stubbs, 31, finished last season with the Rangers after being released by the Colorado Rockies.

He will make $1.5 million if on the Major League roster.

The Chicago White Sox reportedly made a two-year contract offer to Dexter Fowler before he re-signed with the Chicago Cubs.

The White Sox have been linked to a number of trade targets in the outfield this offseason.

The Rangers have agreed on a one-year, $8 million contract with former Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond pending a physical, sources told ESPN.

The Nationals extended a $15.8 million qualifying offer to Desmond, but he elected to test free agency. The Rangers must surrender a first-round draft pick to the Nationals for signing Desmond.

Dexter Fowler signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, a few days after seemingly agreeing to terms on a three-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

A few hours after Fowler appeared with the Cubs, the outfielder's agent, Casey Close, issued a statement criticizing both the Orioles and the media for premature reports about a contract agreement.

Close said in the statement that he had never "witnessed such irresponsible behavior on so many fronts."

"Both the Orioles front office and members of the media were so busy recklessly spreading rumors that they forgot or simply chose not to concern themselves with the truth," Close's statement read. "Dexter Fowler never reached agreement with the Orioles and did not come close to signing with the club; any suggestion otherwise is only a continuation of an already disturbing trend."

In response, Dan Duquette admitted that Baltimore didn't have an official agreement in place.

"I'm not sure what that statement is about," Duquette said. "Because his job is to represent his player. If a player chooses to take less money to go to another team, that's their choice."

The Orioles needed Fowler to pass a physical and sign paperwork, but they still believed he would join the club. Adam Jones said Wednesday he had spoken to Fowler, and Fowler was "excited" and "should be on his way" to Florida.

The Los Angeles Angels recently offered Austin Jackson a one-year deal worth between $5 million and $6 million, but it was rejected.

Jackson's camp was looking for more money even though it's believed that he would have been involved in a left field platoon.

In the wake of Jose Bautista's denial that he is seeking a contract extension of five years and $150 million, three reports claim the Toronto Blue Jays outfielder is actually looking for a larger deal.

Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star suggests the number could be higher if Bautista's $14 million salary for the coming season is included.

However, Jon Heyman and Ken Rosenthal are both reporting that he is seeking more in terms of both years and money.

Mike Rizzo says the Washington Nationals are not negotiating a contract extension for Bryce Harper with agent Scott Boras.

Rizzo admitted that he has had informal talks with Boras, but they "have not been negotiating."

"They're conversations. They're not even talks, really," the general manager said. "Just the beginning, like we’d do with just about anybody."

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Domonic Brown to a Minor League contract.

Brown was invited to Spring Training with the Major League club.

An All-Star in 2013, Brown hit .228 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in an injury-plagued 63 games with Philadelphia last season.

ESPN and multiple reports indicated earlier this week that Fowler had agreed to a three-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles, pending a physical.

The Baltimore Orioles have signed Yovani Gallardo to a restructured two-year contract.

The deal is worth $22 million, according to a league source, and could end up being worth $33 million over three years.

The Orioles can buy out Gallardo for $2 million after two years, or pick up a club option for 2018 worth $13 million.

Gallardo and Baltimore had reportedly agreed to terms on a three-year contract worth $35 million on Saturday, but the deal stalled after the Orioles reviewed the right-hander's pre-signing physical.
